Lettuce, Lattuga Romana Rouge D'Hiver. This Romaine lettuce, also called Cimmaron, is an extremely beautiful 1800s European heirloom. Its large, flat, broad leaves are sweet with a buttery texture. The color varies from green to bronze to deep red. Rouge D'Hiver is quick growing, and heat and cold resistant.  Color varies from reddish-bronze to deep red on the tips with dark green bases. Good sized compact upright head. Delicious, flavorful lettuce brings color and zest to salads. Heirloom, red Romaine-type from France.  Red and green leaves turn a deeper shade of red in cold weather.  A very cold tolerant lettuce. Leaves are tasty, smooth and crunchy. Resists bolting and going to seed.  

The large, broad leaves of 'Rouge d'Hiver' lettuce vary in color from green to bronze to red. They are sweet flavored and make a very attractive tossed green salad or addition to a "baby greens" mix. 'Rouge d'Hiver' is an old European heirloom Romaine / Cos variety dating back to the 1800s.
