Carrot, Carota Nantes Migliorata

Carrot Nantes Migliorata    Long, 7-8 inch deep orange carrot from Chioggia region near Venice. Nice sweet taste and crisp texture. Originating from Nantes in France, Nantes 2 is suitable as both second early and as a maincrop. It is virtually coreless with a tender texture, deep orange colour and sweet flavour. With good carrot fly resistance, it matures quickly in a warm climate and reaches an average size of 6 inches.  An excellent variety for early and successional crops producing uniform blunt-ended cylindrical roots. It grows well in any open position on a light, rich soil which has not been recently manured. Ideal for deep freezing.

Work the soil deeply and water to get weed seeds to germinate before planting. Then remove all weeds and create a fine seedbed. Seed carrots in a straight line in rows 18-24 inches apart. Barely cover seed. Germinates in 3 weeks. When ferny foliage is 1-2 inches tall, thin to 2 inches apart by snipping off the excess plants at the soil line so as not to disturb the roots. Keep well watered. Harvest when the top of the root is about  an inch wide. For fall, leave roots in the ground through a few frosts for best flavor.Sow February to August, harvest in June to October

Nantes – This type of carrot is almost perfectly cylindrical; it's round at the tip and top. It has sparse foliage and near-red flesh that is sweet in flavor and has a nice crunch. The name Nantes originates from the Atlantic coast of France which has ideal conditions for growing this type of carrot
