Basil, Lettuce Leaf - Foglie Di Lattuga

Lettuce Leaf Basil has very large leaves and a mild taste.  Lighter green, smooth leaves with a milder taste than Genovese.  Often used in sandwiches or wrapped around a slice of tomato and mozzarella cheese.  Large plant with light green smooth leaves.  Easy to grow and ideal for containers. Non GMO. 

 Ideal for stuffing and wrapping around ricotta cheese. Good source of Vitamins A & C. Herborists claim that it can aid digestion and is a sedative for the nervous system. Approximate number of seeds 4800. Optimum sowing time February - July. Best sown under protection. Harvest June - October. Lettuce leaf Basil is a great pesto variety because of its abundant yield of large, fragrant leaves. Use the herb in the kitchen by taking several of its large leaves, rinse them and then quickly chop them into small pieces. Traditional Basil Pesto: Ingredients: 3 cups packed basil leaves, washed and dried, 2 cloves of garlic, coarsely chopped, 1/4 cup of pine nuts, 1/2 tsp sea salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil. Liquidise all ingredients except olive oil in food processor. Drizzle in the olive oil with the processor on to combine. Use the pesto fresh or freeze. Transfer the prepared pesto to a container, top with 1-2 tbsp olive oil, to keep the pesto from turning brown. Put on the lid and freeze.Makes approx 1 cup.
