Phlox Drummondi, Mulitcolor

Phlox Drummondi, Multicolor    Drummond Phlox is an annual with lightly fragrant flowers that bloom in midsummer. It grows well in both sun and shade. Easy to grow.  All summer the plant is dotted with bright inflorescences. 

 

Phlox was a popular bedding plant in Victorian times; old catalogs often featured colored plates of many varieties. It is also one of our favorites for its wide range of colors and long bloom time. 
The bush is compact, up to 16" high. Flowers 2" in diameter are collected in an umbrella-shaped shield. Blooms profusely from June to October. They are used for planting in flowerbeds, borders, borders, for decorating rocky hills.  phlox seeds outdoors in late spring. Or start indoors 6 weeks early. Barely cover the seeds with soil. Full sun to part shade. Spacing 9".
 
It reaches its greatest decorative effect in sunny places and light, fertile soils. Seeds are sown in March-April in seedling boxes, lightly sprinkled with earth. At a soil temperature of 65+°F shoots appear in 10-20 days. Seedlings are planted in a permanent place at the end of May, maintaining a distance between plants of 6". It is possible to sow directly into the ground in May.  Phlox drummondii grows well in both sun and part shade. Also known as Drummond's Phlox and Annual Phlox.
